We have added a new pet to our family. A killer whale. Named Oreo. Fortunately Oreo lives by the San Juan Island in Washington and we don't have to do anything to take care of him! That's my kind of pet!
After Annika finished reading a Magic School Bus book about whales she wanted to learn more and wanted to adopt a whale. I told her if she would do some research and write a report on killer whales that we would adopt a whale and have a party.
We set out to the library and she found several books about whales. We laid out a general outline and she told me what to put in the report. She then illustrated it. She did an amazing job. You can see it for yourself here: Annika's Report
The next day we looked up the site for the Whale Museum outside of Seattle and she selected Oreo.
When then made orca cookies and had a little party. Her stuffed orca Double Stuff was invited as well. :) We decide to make the extra cookie dough into pumpkins - I could only cut out so many orcas by hand. Maybe next time we go to Sea World I'll look to see if they have an orca cookie cutter. :)

Wow, Annika's book about whales was amazing! What a smart and talented little girl. I like the picture of the orca eating fish crackers. That was nice of you not to leave him out... :)
